Renovations

Home extensions and renovations: what a structural engineer does

Renovations often touch the structure: removing a wall, widening an opening, adding a deck or building upstairs. An engineer confirms what the existing structure can carry and designs the changes.

When you need engineering

  • Removing or altering load-bearing walls
  • New openings, bifold doors or large windows
  • Decks, extensions and second-storey additions
  • Restumping or house raising
  • Any change that affects tie-down or bracing

What we do

We inspect the existing structure, design new beams, posts and footings, detail connections to old framing and provide a Form 15 design certificate.

Avoiding surprises

Old houses often hide undersized framing, termite damage or missing tie-down. An early inspection keeps the builder's quote realistic.
